Macbook Air Contender

Toshiba Portege 500

Macbook Air maybe the most thinnest notebook on the planet, but it is not the lightest. One of the largest notebook manufaturer, Toshiba, try to make history by producing the most lightest notebook named Toshiba Portege R500.

Toshiba claims that this type have 5 more advantages:
- world lightest widescreen 12.1″ notebook with only 1.72 pounds
- World first notebook with a 7mm DVD-Supermulti drive
- World first widescreen 12.1″ indoor/outdoor transreflective LED backlit display
- World longest battery life in a 12.1″ widescreen notebook
- World thinnest notebook WITH an optical drive. As thin as 0.77″

There are 6 models under Portege 500 according to ToshibaDirect but unfortunately the one with the above features are the top 2 most expensive models they are Portege R500-S5003 and Portege R500-S5004.
Both models already use SSD (Solid State Drive) with capacity of 64GB. And according to Engadget these model support 3G HSDPA connection, but I’m not sure since ToshibaDirect didn’t mention it on their detailed spec, or maybe Engadget talks about the upcoming model.

So, for Windows fans, once again you will not be disappointed with the release of Macbook Air, but again you have to spend more dollars to get this item.

Portege R500-S5003 Notebook PC starting at US$2699
Portege R500-S5004 Notebook PC starting at US$2999

I completely disagree with:
“So, for Windows fans, once again you will not be disappointed with the release of Macbook Air, but again you have to spend more dollars to get this item.”

They won’t disapointed, since you can install Windows using Apple Boot Camp on any Intel powered Macintosh.

but Windows fan never touch Apple product, right?

It’s not right :)
It’s the “anti Mac” that won’t touch Apple product.

Windows fan is happy as long as the machine they bought can be Windows installed. Well, MBA also have Boot Camp built in application obviously to handle Windows installation and have it running side by side with OS X.

Well, I started it with “I completely disagree with:” sentence. Never forced someone to agree my opinion though.
